JSI Tip 8341. You cannot use Veritas Backup Exec on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller to back up a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer remotely?

When you attempt to use Veritas Backup Exec on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller to back up a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer remotely, you receive:

Logon account <System Logon Account> failed to access <Windows XP ComputerName>. The item was not found.

This behavior occurs because the Windows XP SP2 computer has Windows Firewall, formerly ICF (Internet Connection Firewall) enabled.

To workaround this behavior:

1. In the Default Domain Policy, navigate through Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Network / Network Connections / Windows Firewall / Domain Profile.

2. Double-click Windows Firewall: Define program exceptions.

3. Select Enabled.

4. Press the Show button that became visible.

5. Press Add.

6. Type the full path to beremote.exe, normally %ProgramFiles%\Veritas\RANT\beremote.exe, and press OK.

7. Press OK.

8. Press Apply and OK.

9. Close Group Policy.
