JSI Tip 8249. You cannot see all the RIPrep images on a Windows Server 2003 RIS server?

When you start a PXE (Pre-Boot eXecution Environment) client and connect to a Windows Server 2003 that is running RIS (Remote Installation Services), you cannot see all the RIPrep (Remote Installation Preparation) images on the server.

This behavior occurs because Windows Server 2003 RIS servers perform HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) filtering to make sure that RIPrep images that are NOT COMPATIBLE with the client computer do not appear.

To fix your problem, create a RIPrep image that is compatible with the client computer.

NOTE: See How do I install a Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 image to a Windows Server 2003 RIS server?
