JSI Tip 8132. RRAS will not start on your Windows 2000 Server?

When you attempt to start RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service) on a your Windows 2000 Server, the System event log records:

Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Description: The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 87 (0x57).


Type: Error
Source: RemoteAccess
Category: None
Event ID: 20152
Description: The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. The parameter is incorrect.

This problem can occur if the IAS (Internet Authentication Service) database is corrupted.

To resolve this problem:

1. Copy / Paste the following to a FixIAS.bat file:

regsvr32 /s oledb32.dll
net start "Routing and Remote Access"

2. Open a CMD.EXE window.

3. Type FixIAS CD_Drive_Letter, where CD_Drive_Letter is the drive letter that contains the Windows 2000 Server CD, and press Enter.
