JSI Tip 8129. All shadow copies of shared folders are deleted when you start Windows Server 2003?

The subject behavior can occur when using the Shadow Copies of Shared Folders feature and the shadow copy storage area is on a volume that uses a different storage interconnect type than the volume that is enabled for shadow copies.

If the volume that hosts the shadow copy storage area is not available within 30 seconds, all shadow copies for the other volume are deleted.

Volumes that use SCSI, Fiber Channel, and iSCSI as their storage interconnect take more than 30 seconds to become available.

To workaround this behavior, use the same storage interconnect type for the volume that hosts the shadow copy storage area and the volume that is enabled for shadow copies, so that both volumes come online at approximately the same time.
