JSI Tip 8024. When you attempt to update Windows XP from the Windows Update Web site, you receive error 0x80070003?

When you attempt to update Windows XP from Windows Update, you receive a Software Update Incomplete message. The Windows Update.log file may contain:

Error IUCTL Downloading iuident.cab from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v4/iuident.cab (Error 0x80070003: The system cannot find the path specified.)

If you used TweakUI, a similar program, or the registry, to alter the default location of the Program Files system folder, you may experience this behavior.

To workaround the problem, try using the same program to restore the default location.

The default location of the Program Files system folder is on the same partition as Windows (%SystemRoot%).

If this does not fix the problem, make sure that ProgramFilesDir, a string (REG_SZ) data type, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion, contains a data value similar to C:\Program Fles, and that ProgramFilesPath, a REG_EXPAND_SZ data type, contains %ProgramFiles%.
