JSI Tip 7958. NTBackup cannot access the Qmgr0.dat and Qmgr1.dat files?

When you view the NTBackup report, you see:

Warning: Unable to open "<Drive:>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr0.dat" - skipped.
Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Warning: Unable to open "<Drive:>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr1.dat" - skipped.
Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

If BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) is running when you perform the backup of the "<Drive:>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader" folder, you will receive these warnings because BITS has these files locked.

The contents of the "<Drive:>\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader" folder should be excluded from your backup:

1. Use the Registry Editor to add a BITS Value Name, a REG_MULTI_SZ data type, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup.

2. Set the BITS data value to %AllUsersProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\*.

3. Exit the Registry Editor.
