JSI Tip 7945. When you run the HIS 2000 (Host Integration Server 2000) Setup.exe program on Windows 2000 with Terminal Services enabled, you receive 'A terminal server must be in install mode before you can install a program'?

The subject error does not occur if you install by running the HIServer.msi, HIClient.msi, or HIAdmin.msi package.

When you use the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs, the terminal server is automatically placed in install mode.

If you select Application Server Mode on a new install of Windows 2000, it will default to execute mode during Terminal Services setup.

If you upgraded from Windows NT 4.0 Server, Terminal Server Edition, Terminal Services will be in execute mode.

To workaround this behavior:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type change user /install and press Enter.

3. Run Setup.exe and complete the HIS 2000 installation.
