When you install Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 by using a Sysprep image, the mini-setup program may hang.
This issue may occur if the image uses a different HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) than the HAL required on the destination computer.
To view the HAL used on a computer:
1. Start / Run / devmgmt.msc / OK.
2. Insure that the View menu has Devices by type selected.
3. Expand Computer to view the HAL.
NOTE: The following table describes the source and destination computer HAL compatability:
Source Computer HAL | Installs To Destination HAL |
Standard PC, Non-ACPI PIC HAL (Hal.dll) | Standard PC, Non-ACPI PIC HAL (Hal.dll) |
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC, ACPI PIC HAL (Halacpi.dll) | Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC, ACPI PIC HAL (Halacpi.dll) |
