JSI Tip 7809. The second instance of a process runs very slowly in Windows 2000?

The second instance of a process can take forty (40) times longer to complete and generate heavy paging activity, even if you have sufficient RAM, or add RAM.

If your process shares memory through a file-mapping object, you will experience this behavior because a problem in the Windows 2000 memory manager component does NOT allow the working set to grow when the hash table becomes full.

If you cannot change the file-mapping behavior of the application, upgrade to Windows Server 2003, which does not exhibit this behavior.
