JSI Tip 7800. Windows Update reports '0x800a01AD ActiveX component can't create object'?

When you visit the Windows Update site from Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you receive:

0x800a01AD ActiveX component can't create object.

NOTE: The Windows Update log file may contain:

Error IUENGINE Determining machine configuration (Error 0x80040154: Class not registered)

This error will occur if Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) is NOT installed, or improperly registered.

To resolve the problem:

1. Download and install Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

2. Visit the Windows Update site. If the problem is resolved, exit this procedure.

3. Open a CMD.exe Windows.

4. Press Enter after each of the following commands, and OK after the succeeded message:

Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\Msxml.dll
Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\Msxml2.dll
Regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\Msxml3.dll

NOTE: If you receive a failure message, your install of Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) failed. Ignore the error and proceed to the next command. When finished, re-install Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4).
