JSI Tip 7626. Windows XP SP1a issues 'Rundll32.exe Entry point not found' when you open My Computer Properties?

When you right-click My Computer and press Properties, you receive:

Rundll32.exe Entry point not found
The procedure entry RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library winsta.dll.

When you run Msconfig and press Launch System Restore, you receive:

Restrui.exe Entry point not found.
The procedure entry RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library winsta.dll.

These errors will occur if you performed an in-place upgrade (repair installation) of Windows XP SP1a and the service pack, or Windows Update, did not correctly restore Winsta.dll, possibly because of your anti-virus program.

To resolve this problem:

1. Restart your computer.

2. Press F8 and select Safe Mode.

3. Use My Computer, or Windows Explorer, to right-click the %WinDir%\INF\sr.inf file and press Install.

4. When the installation finishes, restart your computer normally.

NOTE: If these problems persist, use Safe Mode to re-apply SP1a, or install the latest Windows XP service pack.
