JSI Tip 7625. PortQry version 2 is a command-line tool that helps with troubleshooting TCP/IP connectivity issues.

NOTE: PortQry version 2 will run on a local or remote computer that uses the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows 2000

Microsoft released PortQry version 1.22 with Windows Server 2003. PortQry version 2 includes all the previous features and adds significant functionality.

PortQry reports the following status:

LISTENING indicates that the a process is listening on the target port.

NOT LISTENING indicates that no process is listening. PortQry receives either a Destination unreachable or a Port unreachable ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) message.

FILTERED indicates that the target port is being filtered and PortQry did NOT receive a response from the port.

PortQry version 2 can accurately determine if more UDP ports are open than PortQry version 1.22 was able to.

PortQry version 2.0 supports the following session and application layer protocols:

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
Remote Procedure Calls (RPC)
Domain Name System (DNS)
NetBIOS Name Service
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA)
SQL Server 2000 Named Instances
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)
Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)
