JSI Tip 7504. Windows XP may take a long time to install on a legacy-free system with a PCI card?

Some OEMs may permanently map an I/O range of 03F8 - 03FF to a COM port on a PCI card in their BIOS, so developers can debug applications and drivers on a legacy-free system.

If you install a PCI legacy card before installing Windows XP, the installation may be delayed by up to 3 hours.

To workaround this behavior, do either of the following:

- Remove the PCI card, and insert it after the install.

- Disable the PCI slot in the BIOS, and enable it after the installation.
