JSI Tip 7384. How do I prevent users from altering Windows Media Player 9 streaming protocols and streaming proxy settings?

When a user navigates the Windows Media Player 9 Tools menu and presses Options, the Network tab allows them to modify Streaming protocols and Streaming proxy settings:

WMP Network Tab

To remove the Network tab:

1. Copy/Paste the following to a WMPnn.reg file:

REGEDIT4

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer\]
"HideNetworkTab"=dword:00000001

2. Merge the WMPnn.reg file with their registry, or run regedit /s WMPnn.reg.

NOTE: The change takes effect the next time that they open Windows Media Player.
