JSI Tip 6813. How do I maintain fully populated Windows 2000 backup catalogs?

Each time you mount a NTBackup tape and select a backup catalog on the Restore tab, the on-media catalog is read to populate the on-disk catalog.

Since the above operation takes a long time, you may want to save the populated catalog for the next restore.

NOTE: You will need to insure that you have sufficient disk space to store the populated catalogs.

NOTE: The catalogs are located at \Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\Catalogs.

To maintain the populated catalog, before quitting NTBackup, rename the .V01 extension to .JSI.

When you want to restore from the same catalog, rename the catalog to the .V01 extension before starting NTBackup.
