JSI Tip 6805. When you attempt to upgrade a basic disk to a dynamic disk, Windows 2000 tells you that there is not enough free space?

If there is not enough un-partitioned space at the end of the disk to create the dynamic disks' private region database, you will receive the subject error.

To workaround this issue, perform one of the following:

The disk has one partition

1. Back up all the data in the partition.

2. Start Disk Manager.

3. Right-click the partition and press Delete Partition.

4. Right-click the disk and press Upgrade To Dynamic Disk.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Create the partition.

7. Format the partition.

8. Restore the data from the backup taken in step 1.

The disk has multiple partitions

1. Back up all the data on the last partition on the disk. If the last partition is a logical drive in an extended partition, back up all the data on all the logical drives and the extended partition.

2. Start Disk Manager.

3. Right-click the last partition and press Delete Partition.

4. Right-click the disk and press Upgrade To Dynamic Disk.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Create the partition.

7. Format the partition.

8. Restore the data from the backup taken in step 1.
