JSI Tip 6366. Outlook 2002 / Outlook Express 6.0 generates errors after installing Windows 2000 SP3?

After installing SP3 on Windows 2000, you experience the following:

        When you start Outlook Express 6.0, you receive:

                 Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded.

        When you open the Windows Address Book (WAB), you receive:

                 An error occurred while attempting to open the WAB. Unable to find the WAB.DLL.

        When start Outlook 2002, you receive:

                 The procedure entry point StrTokEx could not be located in the dynamic link library MSOERT2.dll.

To resolve this problem:

01. Close all open programs.

02. Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs /Add/Remove Windows Components.

03. Clear the Outlook Express box.

04. Press Next.

05. Press Finish when it is available.

06. Right-click the Start button and press Explore.

07. Navigate to the %ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express folder, right-click it, and press Rename. Type Old OE and press Enter.

08. Copy / Paste the following to a deleteOE.reg file:

\[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\]

\[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\]

\[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WAB\]

\[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C\}\]

\[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\\{7790769C-0471-11d2-AF11-00C04FA35D02\}\]

09. Merge the deleteOE.reg file with your registry or run regedit /s deleteOE.reg.

10. Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs /Add/Remove Windows Components.

11. Check the Outlook Express box.

12. Press Next.

13. Press Finish when it is available.
