JSI Tip 6188. How do I enable QuickEdit mode for the Windows XP command prompt?

In Windows 2000, the QuickEdit and Insert mode are both enabled by default.

In Windows XP, QuickEdit mode is disabled by default, to offer improved program compatibility with older MS-DOS programs that have mouse support.

NOTE: QuickEdit mode allows you to use the mouse to copy and paste text in the command prompt window.

To enable QuickEdit mode in Windows XP:

1. Open a CMD prompt.

2. Press the icon in the upper-left corner of the title bar and press Properties.

3. Select the Options tab.

4. Check the QuickEdit Mode and Insert Mode boxes.

5. Press OK.

6. Check the Save properties for future windows with same title and press OK.
