JSI Tip 6070. Your Exchange 2000 Server clients DO NOT receive notification when new mail arrives?

If Exchange 2000 is installed on a cluster and the server is behind a firewall that does NOT permit IP traffic from the cluster node, your clients will experience the subject behavior.

NOTE: All mail traffic to and from the Exchange 2000 Server uses the Exchange 2000 Server virtual server IP address, but new mail notification comes from the cluster node.

To resolve this issue, allow the firewall to permit outbound traffic from the IP address of each cluster node.

NOTE: See XCON: Message Transfer Agent Uses Node IP Address Instead of Cluster IP Address.
