JSI Tip 6018. DVD playback failed due to a problem in the Windows XP video subsystem?

When you attempt to play video from a DVD drive, you receive:

Playback failed due to a problem in the video subsystem.

This error indicates that your DVD decoder is NOT compatible with Windows XP.

To determine what DVD decoder you have installed:

1. Open a CMD.EXE prompt.

2. Type dvdupgrd /detect and press Enter.

If you receive No decoders found, search Help and Support for DVD decoder and select the If you do not have a DVD decoder topic.

NOTE: See Troubleshooting DVD Playback in Windows Media Player for XP.

NOTE: See Supported Software MPEG-2 DVD Decoders in Windows Media Player.
