JSI Tip 5795. How do I change the Windows XP logon Window type on a standalone computer or in a workgroup?

You can use the registry to alter the Windows XP logon window, choosing between the Classic logon window or the Welcome Screen:

1. The LogonType Value name is a REG_DWORD data type at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

2. A data value of 0 invokes the Classic logon window. A data value of 1 invokes the Welcome Screen.

3. You must shutdown and restart Windows XP for this setting to take effect.
