JSI Tip 5674. Windows XP Explorer will NOT allow the removal of the Read-only attribute from a System folder?

The Read-only attribute on a System folder, like My Documents, is critical to the special functions of the folder. Removing the Read-only attribute would cause loss of functionality and any customizations that you performed. When you open the Properties of a System folder that has the Read-only attribute set, you notice that the check box is dimmed, not allowing you to change it.

NOTE: Windows XP allows you to delete, rename, etc. Read-only folders.

NOTE: DO NOT remove the Read-only attribute of a System folder using the Attrib command.
