JSI Tip 5662. You cannot install the Shared Fax Client on Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server Edition?

When you try to install the Fax printer, you receive:

The printer name you have entered is either an invalid fax printer name or the Microsoft shared fax server is unavailable.

It is likely that the SBS Shared Fax Client does NOT have a driver in the trusted path.

NOTE: Windows NT 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, using Service Pack 5 (SP5) or Service Pack 6 (SP6), implemented stability changes that prevent the installation of print drivers from un-trusted paths.

To install the SBS Shared Fax Client:

1. Use Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services\Servers.

2. On the Edit menu, Add Value Name LoadTrustedDrivers, a REG_DWORD data type, and set the data value to 0.

3. Shutdown and restart your server.

4. Install the SBS Shared Fax Client.
