JSI Tip 5570. How can I disable the Properties command on the Windows 2000 My Computer and/or My Documents icon?

If you wish to disable the Properties command when you right click My Computer and/or My Documents, Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 provides the following:

Value Name         Data Type         Data Value
    NoPropertiesMyComputer         REG_DWORD         1
    NoPropertiesMyDocuments         REG_DWORD         1

NOTE: a Data Value of 0, or a missing Value Name, enables the Properties command.

To set these Value Names for the current user, the key is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

To set these Value Names for all users of the computer, the key is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer

NOTE: You may have to log off and log on for these setting to become effective.
