JSI Tip 5426. 'Send To' and e-mail links do NOT use Outlook Express which is your default e-mail program?

When you use the 'Send To' feature of a program, the Send feature of Internet Explorer, or click on an e-mail hyperlink, Outlook Express is NOT used to send the message?

This is the result of a missing registry Value Name, or if Outlook Express is NOT registered as the default e-mail client. Sometimes, the GUI methods of registering Outlook Express does NOT work.

To resolve this problem:

1. Open a CMD prompt.

2. Type:

"%ProgramFiles%\outlook express\msimn.exe" /reg

3. Copy / Paste the following to an OE.reg file:

\[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Outlook Express\]
@="Outlook Express"
"DLLPath"=hex(2):25,50,72,6f,67,72,61,6d,46,69,6c,65,73,25,5c,4f,75,74,6c,6f,  6f,6b,20,45,78,70,72,65,73,73,5c,6d,73,6f,65,2e,64,6c,6c,00

4. Merge the OE.reg file with your registry.
