JSI Tip 5075. Your Windows 2000 computer shows phanton CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive(s) in Device Manager?

When you open Device Manager on your Windows 2000 computer, one or more removable media devices appear with a red X. These devices do NOT exist on your computer?

If your computer was created from a Sysprep.exe image, used by some OEMs, and the master computer had these removable devices, Sysprep.exe does NOT remove removable IDE storage devices.

To remove these phantom devices:

1. Right-click My Computer and press Manage.

2. Navigate to Storage / Removable Storage / Physical Locations.

3. Right-click a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive that has a red X and press Delete.
