JSI Tip 4994. How do I remove Windows NT 4.0 joystick drivers after I upgrade to Windows 2000?

Upgrading to Windows 2000 does NOT remove the Windows NT 4.0 joystick drivers. These drivers are NOT used in Windows 2000.

To remove the Windows NT 4.0 joystick drivers:

1. Start / Search / For Files or Folders.

2. Type joystick.dll joystick.sys sidewndr.dll sidewndr.sys and press Search Now.

3. Delete all the files that are found and close the dialog.

4. Use Regedt32 to delete all of the following keys, if they exist, where <nnnn> is any 4 digit number:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SIDEWNDR

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\JOYSTICK

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SIDEWNDR

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResources\Joystick\JOYSTICK.DLL<nnnn>

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResources\Joystick\SIDEWNDR.DLL<nnnn>
