JSI Tip 4991. Windows XP Explorer may hang during detection of audio devices?

During the detection of Plug and Play audio devices, Windows Explorer may hang, due a rare timing condition in the WinMM sub-system.

This problem is dependent upon your device response time, device functions, bus type, drivers, processor speed, etc....

When Windows Explorer hangs, use Task Manager to kill the Explorer.exe process. This will cause a new instance of Explorer.exe to automatically start, returning your computer to normal functionality.
