JSI Tip 3646. Pre-Windows 2000 user, computer, and trust relationship name restrictions in Windows 2000.


If you use a restricted user name or computer name, Windows 2000 will exhibit varying behavior, including duplicate name errors and trust relationship failures. The following names are restricted, and should not be used:

Everyone

Local

Creator owner

Creator group

NT pseudo domain

NT authority

Dialup

Network

Batch

Interactive

Service

Builtin

System

Anonymous Logon

Creator owner server

Creator group server

Enterprise domain controllers

Self

Authenticated Users

Restricted

Terminal server user

Proxy

Restricted Computer or Trust Relationship Names

Internet$
NOTE: Do not use Internet as a computer name or domain name, as Windows 2000 will append a $ when creating these accounts.
