If Windows Media Player 7 is installed on a Windows 2000 computer, new user profiles on that computer will contain the Windows Media Player 7 desktop and Quick Launch icons.
To prevent these icons from being installed, but retaining access from the Start menu:
1. Use Regedt32 to navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\\{6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00c4F79FAA6\}
2. Delete the Stubpath value name in the right-hand pane.
