JSI Tip 3556. You can't install a Java applet into the Java Package Manager on Windows 2000?

When you try to install a Java applet into the Java Package Manager, the installation fails?

This problem is generally the result of not having write permissions to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Storage Database key or to the Downloaded Program Files folder.

This problem usually only occurs on a clean install, as upgraded systems normally have the appropriate permissions.

To resolve the problem, use either of the following:

- Install the applet as a Power User or Administrator.

- Use Regedt32 to grant the user permissions to write the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key and sub-key and use Windows Explorer or CACLS to grant file system permissions.
