JSI Tip 3206. SP1 changes the Dynamic DNS functionality?

After installing SP1, using the Netlogon services causes Dynamic DNS registration to function differently?

If you disabled the Register this connection's addresses in DNS option or set DisableDynamicUpdate to 1, the pre and post Service Pack 1 behavior is different.

Prior to SP1, A records and PTR records are NOT dynamically registered, but SRV records ARE dynamically registered.

After you apply SP1, A records, PTR records, and SRV records are NOT dynamically registered.

If you want Windows 2000 to function as it did before you installed SP1:

1. Use Regedt32 to navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters

2. On the Edit menu, Add Value name DnsUpdateOnAllAdapters, as a REG_DWORD data type. Set the data value to 1.
