JSI Tip 2968. The GUID of a pre-staged computer is different than what you typed?

To pre-stage a computer for a RIS install, you type the GUID of a managed computer into the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC snap-in.

If you subsequently view the GUID of the pre-staged computer, it is NOT what you typed?

The GUID looks different because the first 16 bytes are 'scrambled' to match the GUID that is displayed when you view a client's properties.

Example:

You type:

12345678901234567890123456789012

The display is:

\{78563412-1290-5634-7890-123456789012\}
