JSI Tip 2830. How do I remove the Windows NT 4.0 joystick drivers after I upgrade to Windows 2000?


The Windows NT 4.0 joystick drivers are not removed or used after an upgrade to Windows 2000.

To remove the Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro joystick and a generic analog joystick drivers:

1. Start / Search / Files or Folders.

2. Enter joystick.dll joystick.sys sidewndr.dll sidewndr.sys and press Search Now.

3. Press CTRL+A to select all the files and delete them.

4. Close the Search.

5. Use Regedt32 to delete:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SIDEWNDR 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\JOYSTICK 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SIDEWNDR 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\Microsoft SideWinder 3D Pro 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResources\Joystick\JOYSTICK.DLL<nnnn> 

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaResources\Joystick\SIDEWNDR.DLL<nnnn>
        where <nnnn> is a four digit number.
