When you upgrade a Windows NT computer to Windows 2000, default folder / File and registry permissions may overwrite any custom setting
that you may have configured. You can check / prevent this from happening by modifying:
Dwup.inf (for Windows 2000 Professional upgrades)
Dsup.inf (for Windows 2000 Server upgrades)You will need to upgrade from a distribution share, by copying
the I386 folder to a network share. Then:
01. Expand the Dwup.in_ or Dsup.in_ file from the distribution share to your Windows 2000 Pro computer at %SystemRoot%\Security\Templates.
02. Start / Run / MMC.exe / OK.
03. Press CTRL+M / Add / Security Templates / Add / Close / OK.
04. Expand the Security Templates / %SystemRoot%\Security\Templates and appropriate .inf file.
05. Select the Registry or File System.
06. If the object that you want the upgrade to ignore is NOT listed in the Object Name pane:
a. Right click Registry or File System and press Add Key or Add File.
b. Select the object you want to the upgrade to ignore or type the path to the object in the box.
c. Press OK to start the ACL editor.
d. Press OK to accept the default.
e. Click Do not allow permissions on this key\file to be replaced.
f. Press OK. Continue with step 8.
07. If the object that you want the upgrade to ignore is listed:
a. Double-click the object.
b. Click Do not allow permissions on this key\file to be replaced.
c. Click OK.
08. The object you want the upgrade to ignore should have Ignore listed under Permission and Audit.
09. Right-click the template name and press Save.
10. Compress the Dwup.inf or Dsup.inf file to the distribution share.
