JSI Tip 2196. How do I stop ICW and Outlook Express desktop Icons from being installed into Windows 2000 new user profiles?

To remove the Outlook Express icon, used Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C\}

Select the Stubpath value name in the right hand pane and delete it.

To prevent the ICW icon from being installed, use Regedt32 and select the HKEY_USERS hive. On the Registry menu, Load Hive. Browse to the NTUSER.DAT file of the default user. The local Default User NTUSER.DAT files is located at:

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User\Ntuser.dat.

Name the Key JSINEW. Navigate to:

HKEY_USERS\JSINEW\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce

Delete the ^SetupICWDesktop value name. Select the JSINEW key and Unload Hive.
