When you attempt to install software update 898461 in Windows XP, the installation fails, and %SystemRoot%\System32\Spupdsvc.log file shows that the installation was canceled.
This behavior will occur if the %SystemRoot%\System32\Spupdsvc.exe is corrupted.
To workaround this behavior, rename the corrupted Spupdsvc.exe file to Spupdsvc.old.
