JSI Tip 10268. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 stop responding when you select the 'Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu' option?

When you resume from hibernation, selecting the Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu option after pressing F8 in response to For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows, press F8 may cause your computer to hang.

This behavior occurs because selecting the Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu option deletes the Hiberfil.sys file, which contains information about the operating system state and unsaved data.

To workaround this problem when it occurs, turn off the power. Then power on the computer to restart.

NOTE: ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) computers shutdown when you press and release the power button. If it doesn't, hold down the power button until power is shut off.
