JSI Tip 10117. Picture Tasks options are not available in a Windows XP folder that contains images?

If you don't copy an image to My Pictures, some folders don't have the Picture Tasks options available in the Web view window.

The My Pictures special folder provides information to tools so that you can view, print, and manipulate images, and publish images on the Internet.

NOTE: You can use the View menu to select Filmstrip or Thumbnails, and you can right-click an image and press Preview.

If you copy an image to a new, empty folder, or you copy the My Pictures folder, the Picture Tasks options are displayed in the Web view window on the new folder. However, some folders, such as My Documents and My Music, do not inherit the folder settings and don't contain the Picture Tasks options.

If you copy an image to an existing folder whose first file was an image, the Picture Tasks options are added to the Web view window.

Once added, the Picture Tasks options will remain, even if you delete all image files.

If you copy an image to an existing folder that contains other file types, the Picture Tasks options may not be displayed in the Web view window.

NOTE: How can I modify folder view settings or customize a folder?

NOTE: What are the Windows XP file grouping options within folders?
