JSI Tip 10045. Add/Remove Programs applet reports 'Object doesn't support this property or method'?

When you open the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel, you receive:

Object doesn't support this property or method.

NOTE: You may also notice that ActiveX controls do not load as expected in Internet Explorer, and that folders do not appear correctly if Web View is enabled.

This behavior will occur if some sub-keys are missing from the registry.

Using REG.EXE, built into Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and later operating systems, or installed from the Windows 2000 Support Tools, I have scripted ADDREMOVEFIX.BAT to resolve this problem.

To use ADDREMOVEFIX.BAT, just run it from Start / Run, a CMD.EXE windows, or double-click it in Windows Explorer.

When the ADDREMOVEFIX.BAT script finishes, shutdown and restart your computer.

ADDREMOVEFIX.BAT contains:

@echo off
setlocal
set KEY=HKCR\CLSID\\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046\}
REG ADD %KEY% /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "ClassMoniker"
REG ADD %KEY%\InprocServer32 /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "ole32.dll"
REG ADD %KEY%\ProgID /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "clsid"
REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046\}"
