JSI Tip 0842. Things you should know about the Task Scheduler.

Task Scheduler is an optional Internet Explorer add-on that you install in Control Panel / Add/Remove / Microsoft Internet Explorer.

1. The Task Scheduler replaces the Schedule service by modifying the registry entries at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule

It adds a DisplayName type REG_SZ value of Task Scheduler,
replaces the ImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\AtSvc.Exe with C:\WINNT\System32\MSTask.exe,
and adds a NextJobId type REG_DWORD field.

2. Uninstalling the Task Scheduler does not restore the Schedule service.
You must manually reverse the above change and delete any sub-key.

3. If you stop the Task Scheduler service, it disables your ability to add jobs using the AT command,
does not stop scheduled tasks from running,
and does not prevent you from adding new tasks using the Task Scheduler.

4. Installing Task Scheduler creates a special Scheduled Tasks folder that hold the scheduled jobs.

5. When you install Task Scheduler, current scheduled jobs are migrated to the Scheduled Tasks folder.

6. To delete a scheduled job:

Use the Scheduled Tasks shortcut in the Administrative Tools folder of your Start menu.
Right click the task and click Delete followed by Yes. Then click Close on the File menu.

7. To disable a task:

Use the Scheduled Tasks shortcut in the Administrative Tools folder of your Start menu.
Right click the task and click Properties. Clear the Enabled (scheduled task runs at specified time) check box on the Task tab.
Click Close on the File menu.

8. To disable the Task Scheduler:

Use the Scheduled Tasks shortcut in the Administrative Tools folder of your Start menu.
Click Stop Using Task Scheduler on the Advanced menu. Then click Close on the File menu.
