Using DHCP allows an administrator to manage/see all IP allocations from a central point. DHCP Administrator (Mappings / Show Reservations) displays a complete list of active reservations and active leases.

If your clinet uses WINS and the database gets corrupted, typing ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew will force re-registration.
