I tried to install Microsoft Outlook, then Exchange Server on a test machine. However, after I installed Outlook, I couldn't install Exchange Server.

A. Outlook and Exchange Server use some of the same DLLs and components, so you must install them in the right order, and you didn't. Try removing Outlook, installing Exchange Server, and then installing Outlook. When you've confirmed that everything is working to your satisfaction, add the latest Exchange Server service pack, and you'll be in good shape.
