I get a MaxMpxCt event log every time I start Windows 2000.

A. This is caused if the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\MaxMpxCt is less than 50.

---Systemprotocol---<br><br>
Eventtype: Error<br>
Eventsource: Server<br>
Eventcategory: None<br>
EventID: 2506<br>
Description:<br>
The value "MaxMpxCt" in registry key "LanmanServer\Parameters"
is not valid.<br>
The value will be ignored and server operation will continue.

To correct the problem perform the following:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)
  2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters
  3. Double click on MaxMpxCt
  4. Set the type to decimal and enter 50. Click OK
  5. Close the registry editor

It is my understanding that Norton Antivirus is guilty of changing this to an invalid value.
