How do I enable bus mastering (DMA) in Windows 2000?

A. DMA support is included in Windows 2000 however it is not enabled for the devices by default and so requires configuration. Enabling DMA if supported will result in performance gains.

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  2. Select the Hardware tab and select 'Device Manager'
  3. Expand 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers'
  4. Right click on 'Primary IDE Channel' (and secondary if available)
  5. Select 'Advanced Settings'
  6. For Device 0 and Device 1 under Transfer Mode select 'DMA if available'

  7. Click OK
  8. Click OK to the main system properties
  9. Click OK to reboot the computer
