How can I stop Windows XP from asking me whether I want to send an error report to Microsoft when a program crashes?

A. Windows XP introduced a feature that prompts you to send information to Microsoft over the Internet when a local program crashes. To prevent your computer from prompting you every time a program crashes, perform the following steps:

  1. Start the System Control Panel applet (go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, and click System).
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Click Error Reporting.
  4. Select "Disable error reporting" to stop the OS from sending crash information to Microsoft, or select any programs that you do want the OS to alert Microsoft about in the event of an application crash.

  5. Click OK to make the changes effective.
  6. Click OK to close the System Control Panel applet.
