How can I redirect to an external address email that comes to my Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server?

A. To redirect Exchange 2000 email to an external address, perform the following steps:

  1. Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in (go to Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and click "Active Directory Users and Computers").
  2. Right-click inside the Users folder (or the Domain Controllers folder, if you use organizational units--OUs) and select New, Contact.
  3. Provide a name for the contact and click Next. (For this name, I prefer to use the external email address to which I plan to forward mail so that I can distinguish it from other contact names, and I copy this name to the Display Name box.)
  4. From the next window, click Modify, choose SMTP Address, enter the external email address, and click OK.
  5. Click Next to proceed to the review window, then click Finish.
  6. Locate and double-click the user account from which you want to forward mail.
  7. Select the Exchange General tab and click the Delivery Options button.
  8. In the Forwarding address section, select the "Forward to" radio button and click Modify.
  9. Locate the contact that you just created and click OK.
  10. Select the "Deliver message to both forwarding address and mailbox" check box if you want to maintain a copy of each email message on the server.
  11. Click OK twice to exit all configuration screens.
