How are We Doing with Less than 90 Days until Windows XP's End of Life?

It's January 2014, do you know where your Windows XP PCs are? With the holidays and slack-time of 2013 behind us, it's time to get back to work and one of the most pressing IT issues for the first quarter of 2014 is demolishing the last of the Windows XP empire.

My last Windows XP check-in showed that Windows XP usage had dipped down to around 31% worldwide. However that was in November 2013 and the changes between October 2013 and November 2013 were minimal.

However, new stats (below) show that the holidays were kind to Microsoft, allowing Windows XP computers to be replaced by something else. Windows XP has dipped under 30% for probably the first time since it was released.

Is this good news? With only 3 months left it's hard to be sure, but numbers are moving in the right direction. And, it's looking more and more like my predictions are accurate. Windows 7 usage continues to rise, in part due to the reluctance of businesses to adopt the Windows 8 lifestyle.

P.S. If you are somehow just learning that Windows XP is reaching its end of support, April 8, 2014 is the deadline for Windows XP.
