A good friend of ours, whom we feel very fortune to have around and has done a great job of enhancing our lives, is celebrating a birthday this week. Who's this friend, you ask? The Internet! Thirty-five years ago this week, computer scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) used a 15' cable to link two computers. The link, which occurred September 2, 1969, tested a new way to exchange data between computers and ultimately played a pivotal role in the development of the Internet. Other development throughout the 1970s expanded the network, added electronic mail and TCP/IP, the core networking communication protocol used on the Internet. The 1980s saw the birth of the domain name system and in 1990, the World Wide Web was born. Although it plays a key role in the lives of many, the Internet's appeal and reach is still very much in its infancy. Scientists, businesses, and regular people are working every day at expanding and improving the power of the Internet. Happy Birthday to the Internet! We look forward to many more great years
