DVR and HDTV Demand Expected to Surge

Digital video recorders (DVR) and HDTV customers won't be in the minority much longer, according to a new report by Jupiter Research. In a report released late last week, the company said that the installed base of DVRs will increase from 7 million at the end of 2004 to 55 million by 2010. Future DVR usage will be fueled by cable and satellite providers aggressively deploying the technology to increase and improve their subscriber base. The report also predicts that the installed base for HDTV will increase from 13 million HDTV monitors as of the end of last year to 74 million by 2010. The demand for HDTV is being fueled by an increase in HD programming as well as decreased prices for new TVs.
